Ingredients overview
- 1 tablespoon olive oil
- 3 medium shallots (sliced)
- 2 cloves garlic (coarsely chopped)
- 200 g long-grain brown rice (dry)
- 1 large carrot (approx. 80 g)
- 150 g quality chicken ham (diced)
- 100 g frozen green peas
- 1 pinch salt
- 1 pinch black pepper
- 1 l water
In a large pot, heat the olive oil over medium heat. Add the sliced shallots and coarsely chopped garlic, then sauté for 1–2 minutes. After that, add the brown rice, sauté for another 1–2 minutes, then pour in the water.
Season with salt and pepper, cover the pot, and cook for 20–30 minutes until the rice softens. Replenish water if necessary. Meanwhile, coarsely grate the carrot and dice the chicken ham.
When the rice is cooked, stir in the frozen green peas, diced ham, and grated carrot. Reduce the heat to low and let it cook together for another 2 minutes. Serve warm.
Chef's tip
Instead of brown rice, you can also use basmati rice, in which case the cooking time will be shortened to approximately 12-15 minutes.
