Preparation of the cake base
Line the bottom of a 24 cm cake tin with baking paper, grease the sides with butter and dust with flour. Preheat the oven to 170°C (fan-assisted).
Sift the flour with the powdered sugar, then mix in the salt and ground walnuts.
Whisk the egg in a bowl with a hand whisk, then gradually add the oil while continuously mixing until you get a mayonnaise-like consistency. Then mix in the buttermilk, and finally add the dry ingredients.
