Ingredients
- 250 g cow's milk cottage cheese
- 10 pcs kifli
- 120 g butter
- 500 g apple
- 4 pcs egg yolks
- 3 pcs egg whites
- 30 g vanilla sugar
- 750 ml milk
- 50 g raisins
- 300 g granulated sugar
- 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
Steps
- 1In a bowl, mix the cottage cheese with 30 g soft butter and one egg yolk. Add the vanilla sugar and the raisins, previously soaked and drained.
- 2Preheat the oven to 160 °C. Grease a baking dish of approx. 30×24 cm with butter. Slice the kifli into pieces about 1 cm thick. Separate the remaining eggs into yolks and whites. Melt the butter in a small saucepan.
- 3In a bowl, whisk the milk with the remaining egg yolks, add 60 g sugar and the melted butter, then mix thoroughly. Gradually soak the kifli slices in the flavored milk until well saturated.
- 4Line the bottom of the greased baking dish with a layer of soaked kifli. Spread the grated apples over it, sprinkle with cinnamon and 60 g sugar, then cover with another layer of kifli. Spread the cottage cheese filling over this, and finally top with the last layer of soaked kifli. Bake in the preheated oven for 30 minutes.
- 5Whisk the egg whites with the remaining sugar until stiff peaks form. Remove the bonfire cake from the oven and spread the meringue evenly over the top. Increase the oven temperature to 190 °C, return the baking dish, and bake for another 10 minutes, or until the meringue is golden brown.
