Preparation method
Wash the lemon and orange thoroughly, then cut them into thin slices.
Place the fruit slices in a saucepan with all the spices (cloves, star anise, cinnamon, grated nutmeg, ginger) and sugar. Heat over low heat until the sugar begins to melt and the fruits release their juice.
Pour in the red wine and continue heating the mixture. It is very important not to boil the wine, as the alcohol would evaporate – just heat until steaming.
Chef's tip
Use untreated citrus fruits, as their peels will also be included in the drink.
The amount of sugar can be increased or decreased according to taste, depending on the acidity of the wine.
