Preparation method

Pile the flour into a mound and make a well in the center. Add the salt, crumbled fresh yeast, and lukewarm water.

Thoroughly knead the ingredients until you get a smooth, elastic dough. Let it rise in a warm place.

Form the dough into flatbreads, then bake in an oven at 180 °C for 10-15 minutes (or steam traditionally for the authentic Bao texture).

Chef's tip

Bao buns are traditionally prepared in a steamer, which makes them truly soft and white. If baking them in the oven, make sure they don't dry out!
