Preparation method
Ingredients overview
- 200 g plant-based gyros strips (seitan or soy protein)
- 1 tbsp olive oil
- ½ red onion
- 1 tomato
- ¼ cucumber
- ½ head iceberg lettuce
- 1 tsp dried oregano
- 1 tsp smoked paprika
- salt to taste (for the 'meat' and dip)
- pepper to taste
- 2 pita breads
- 100 g plant-based plain yogurt
- 1 clove garlic, crushed
- ½ tbsp lemon juice
- ½ tbsp chopped fresh dill
Briefly warm the pitas in a pan or oven for about 2-3 minutes.
Meanwhile, slice the red onion thinly, dice the tomato and cucumber, and tear the lettuce into smaller pieces. Heat the olive oil in a pan, add the plant-based gyros strips, season with oregano and smoked paprika, salt, then fry for about 5-6 minutes until nicely browned and crispy.
In a separate bowl, mix all the dip ingredients (plant-based yogurt, garlic, lemon juice, dill, and a pinch of salt). Spread a layer of dip into the warm pitas, add lettuce, tomato, cucumber, and finally the crispy gyros strips. Roll them up and serve warm.
