Preparation method
Peel the potatoes and slice them as thinly as possible. Prepare two oven-safe pans: one larger (approx. 25 cm in diameter) and one slightly smaller (approx. 20 cm in diameter).
Preheat the oven to 170 °C. In a small saucepan, melt the butter over low heat (approx. 2-3 minutes), then pour it into a large bowl. Add the crushed garlic, nutmeg, salt, and pepper, then mix thoroughly. Toss the potato slices in the mixture, ensuring they are all coated with the seasoned butter.
Arrange the potatoes in the larger pan, pour the cream over them, and cover with baking paper. Place the smaller pan on top as a weight (you can add dried beans or peas to make it heavier). Bake at 170 °C for 60-65 minutes. Then remove the weight and paper, increase the heat to 220 °C, and bake for another 20-25 minutes until golden brown.
