Tatayoyo's special feature is its particularly fruity, intense flavour. While the particularly tasty snack pepper varieties available on the market today contain 9 different flavourings, Tatayoyo's flavour is shaped by a combination of 19 flavourings.

Interesting fact

The story began 10 years ago, when Rijk Zwaan breeders came across a wild pepper that was extraordinarily rich in flavourings. They immediately felt that they could now create something special, and set about breeding a variety that could be marketed commercially, which not only had a unique flavour, but whose colour and shape would also immediately stand out from the rest. After several years of crossing, where the emphasis was on highlighting favourable quality characteristics and retaining advantageous characteristics from a cultivation perspective, the first marketable variety was born, which was given the name Mitayo. Further breeding of this variety produced Tatayoyo, which is slightly larger than snack peppers but smaller than blocky types, and has a vibrant orange colour. The size was not chosen by chance by the experts: the vegetable still fits comfortably in children's lunch boxes – and it is also no coincidence that the pepper contains hardly any seeds.

Producer information

The Granada La Palma producers' and other employees' trade union in Spain. Their operation is cooperative in nature, their cooperative model is therefore organised along community interests, and fits perfectly with the new interests of consumers. La Palma Cooperativa was founded in 1984 and since its establishment has grown to include around 150 producer members, with a turnover of over 10 million euros from fruit and vegetable cultivation. La Palma is a unique enterprise, which stands out in Europe in the production and marketing of cocktail tomatoes and special mini-vegetables. 90% of their production is exported, primarily to central European markets.
