Passionfruit twinpack

The fruits are blue or purple, round or oval, and can be up to 7 cm in size. They are covered with a smooth, hard, leathery skin that is about 3 mm thick. Inside, there is a soft, cottony lining with many seeds surrounded by a gelatinous, orange-green flesh.
The taste is slightly similar to blackcurrant, very intense, pleasantly sour, can be even very sour, with an exotic aroma reminiscent of apricot or mango. The skin of the unripe fruit is smooth and shiny, while when ripe it is wrinkled and bumpy, as if it had shrunk. Passion fruit is best consumed as a fresh fruit, which can be cut open and eaten with a spoon. In the kitchen, it is most often used to flavour drinks or desserts. The exotic flavour also stands out in fruit salads, desserts, cocktails, jams or ice creams. It can be made into fruit juice, or a topping for cakes, and pastries can be decorated directly with the seeds, or flavoured with the flesh (especially cheesecakes). It is often added to tropical fruit juices. By cooking the strained flesh (without seeds) with sugar, a thick, delicious syrup is made.
It contains a high amount of provitamin A, B vitamins, vitamin C, calcium, phosphorus, iron and fibre. It originally comes from Brazil, but today it is grown in most tropical areas, most commonly in Kenya, Australia and New Guinea.
