Cut the stale bread into smaller cubes, place them in a bowl, and pour the milk over them. Let it sit for 5-10 minutes until the bread absorbs the liquid, then mash it thoroughly using your hands or a fork.
Finely chop the onion and crush the garlic. Grate the Trappist cheese on a coarse grater.
Add the eggs, chopped onion, crushed garlic, grated cheese, sweet ground paprika, dried marjoram, salt, and black pepper to the soaked bread. Mix thoroughly.
Chef's tip
If you want to make them even heartier, you can also mix a little rendered bacon or diced smoked sausage into the bread mixture.
The patties can also be baked in the oven: on a baking sheet lined with baking paper, brushed lightly with oil, at 200 °C for about 20 minutes until crispy.
