Finely chop the onion and crush the garlic. Peel the potatoes and cut them into 1.5 cm cubes. Slice the smoked sausage, and dice the TV pepper and tomato. Drain and thoroughly rinse the canned white beans.
Cooking
Heat the lard in a large pot. Add the dry tarhonya and toast over medium heat until golden brown, stirring constantly.
Add the sliced smoked sausage and finely chopped onion to the toasted tarhonya. Sauté together for 2-3 minutes until the sausage releases its flavorful fat.
Chef's tip
When toasting the tarhonya, make sure it does not burn: continuous stirring ensures an even, golden brown color and an authentic roasted flavor.
If you want a heartier, saucier one-pot dish, you can also make it with mixed canned beans (white and red kidney beans).
