Kőröstej Kft. was founded in 1991 and has since become Hungary's largest cheese manufacturer and one of its most significant food exporters. The number of its employees exceeds 1000.

Every year, they process more than 110 million litres of excellent quality milk originating exclusively from Hungarian dairy farms in their plants in Barcs, Hajdúböszörmény and Kőröstetétlen, while in Kacsóta, Baranya county, they make processed cheeses. The company manufactures 40 thousand tons of cheese annually, which is almost equivalent to half of the Hungarian cheese consumption. 

The Hajdú brand is the flagship of the Kőröstej group. The name looks back on many decades of tradition in the Hungarian dairy industry, as the Hajdú County Dairy Company founded in 1957 was one of the largest Hungarian dairy companies until the transformation following the regime change. Thus, the “Hajdú” brand name has been a household name in Hungary for more than 50 years.
