Kőröstej Kft. was founded in 1991, and has since become Hungary's largest cheese manufacturer and one of its most significant food exporters. It employs over 1000 people.

Every year, they process more than 110 million litres of excellent quality milk sourced exclusively from Hungarian dairy farms in their plants in Barcs, Hajdúböszörmény and Kőröstetétlen, while in Kacsóta, Baranya county, they make processed cheeses. The company manufactures 40 thousand tonnes of cheese per year, which is almost equivalent to half of Hungarian cheese consumption. 

The Hajdú brand is the flagship of the Kőröstej group. The name has a long history in the Hungarian dairy industry, as the Hajdú County Dairy Company, founded in 1957, was one of the largest Hungarian dairy companies until the transformation following the change of regime. As such, the “Hajdú” brand name has been a household name in Hungary for over 50 years.
