Organic Kingdom beetroot

Beetroot, especially in the winter months, is one of our most important sources of vitamins and minerals. It is a special purple-coloured plant belonging to the beet family, originally native to Southern and Central Europe. It is full of antioxidants, minerals, contains a lot of iron, calcium, magnesium, and is rich in vitamins: A, B and C. In folk medicine, it is known as an excellent blood builder. Its antioxidants fight against harmful free radicals.

Interesting facts

Beetroot was already grown in large quantities by the Babylonians and the Phoenicians. According to folk tradition, Charlemagne trusted its healing power so much that he regulated its cultivation by decree. The Greeks sacrificed beetroot to Apollo in Delphi. The Romans used beetroot to reduce fever.

Producer information

The Organic Kingdom organic farm is located in Kölcse, in the heart of the Szatmár region, in an untouched, less discovered natural environment. The Szatmár region is often referred to as the "orchard" of Hungary, famous for its apples, plums, walnuts and sour cherries. The nature reserves in the area are ideal for organic farming.

The beginnings of the enterprise date back to 1997, when they started to grow vegetables as a family farm. The one-hectare area soon expanded, and today they grow vegetables and fruits on 50 hectares. In 2003, they built a 600-tonne capacity cold store and packaging plant.

In 2004, they switched to organic farming, and since then they have not used any fertilisers, synthetic pesticides or herbicides. Their environmental awareness and the protection of their natural environment are of paramount importance to them.

Since 2005, they have been exporting to the European Union countries and Israel, and they are also present on the domestic market. Organic Kingdom Kft. was founded in 2008 for the distribution, processing and export of organic vegetables and fruits. From the very beginning, they have offered long-term cooperation to local organic producers.
