Description
Native to the dry, rocky coastlines of the Mediterranean region and Southern Europe, it is also a popular spice and medicinal herb in Hungary. Its folk names include: rozmarin and antosfű. It was already a known and popular spice in ancient times, cultivated as an official medicinal herb in monastery gardens.
Care
It requires a sunny, warm, and sheltered spot. Water it only moderately; its roots quickly rot if overwatered. Provide nutrients in spring when new shoots begin to grow. Overwinter it in a bright place at 2-8 degrees Celsius, and only move it outdoors from mid-May. It thrives in dry, calcareous soil. It tolerates transplanting poorly. If it is necessary, transplant it carefully with its root ball, making sure not to damage its roots. If the plant is happy in its spot, it can live for up to 30 years. Prune it occasionally to strengthen the stems.
The purchased plant must always be repotted to ensure its long-term survival indoors. We recommend repotting them into a larger pot or container so they feel comfortable in a heated apartment and do not wilt. It is also important not to forget to mist them (with water)!
