Tamarillo

Freshly picked ripe fruits, flown in directly from Colombia!

This exotic fruit is native to northern South America. Nowadays, it is cultivated in many tropical and subtropical regions, including New Zealand, Brazil, Ecuador, Colombia and Kenya.

This exotic fruit is a close relative of tomatoes and potatoes. It is an egg-shaped, smooth-skinned berry.

Its flesh is yellowish, reddish, dark purple and contains numerous edible soft seeds, its taste is slightly tart, sweet and sour.

Use 

The fruit is really tasty when it is a bit soft and has a bright red exterior. The outer skin is slightly bitter, so it is recommended to scald it and then peel off the thin outer layer.
But we can also eat it raw, in which case it is worth sprinkling it with a little sugar, but some people prefer it with salt. 
Interestingly, it is often used as a side dish for fish. We can make puree or just roast tamarillo for meat. 
It can also be used for drinks, we can mix it with orange to serve a tasty and healthy drink. 

Storage

Store in a dry, cool place, between 10-12 °C.
