Purple Onion

A variety of red onion with white flesh and a dark purple skin. A milder, slightly sweeter alternative to the yellow onion.

Interesting facts

One of the oldest cultivated plants, this herb originating from Asia is grown and consumed almost all over the world. It is very low in calories. Purple onions have been used for medicinal purposes both externally and internally for centuries.

Use

It can be used primarily to flavour soups, stews and meat dishes, but it can also be used to make independent dishes and can be added to salads, cold dishes and pickles in many ways. French onion soup or fried onion are piquant dishes that do not have a strong smell at all, so they can be consumed without hesitation.

Storage

Store in a dry, cool place, between 5-10 °C.
