Red onion is less strong than common onion, often sweet-tasting, and mildly pungent. It's excellent in summer salads, and in Hungarian cuisine, the classic "zsíros kenyér" (bread with lard) is truly authentic with red onion.
Interesting facts It is one of our oldest cultivated plants, grown and consumed almost all over the world. This spice, originating from Asia, is very low in energy. For centuries, red onion has been used for medicinal purposes, both externally and internally.
Usage Primarily, it can be used to flavour soups, stews, and meat dishes, but independent dishes can also be made from it, and it can be added in many ways to salads, cold dishes, and pickles. French-style, piquant dishes like onion soup or fried onion have no strong smell at all, so they can be consumed without hesitation.
Storage Store in a dry, cool place, between 6-8°C.
