Description
Apricot cultivation in Hungary began during the Ottoman occupation, and it is one of our most beloved summer fruits. Four thousand years ago, it reached Central Asia from China and North India via the Silk Road, and then the territory of the Roman Empire. Its cultivation truly spread in Europe in the 18th century.
Interesting facts
It is an excellent source of beta-carotene, lutein, and vitamins A, C, and E. It is rich in antioxidants, flavonoids, and other valuable phytonutrients, thus protecting our body from serious chronic diseases and cell damage associated with so-called oxidative stress. It can help maintain eye health. Its high fiber content aids digestion. Due to its water content, it is excellent on warm summer days, as it can help with hydration.
Usage
Its fruit can be consumed raw or squeezed into juice. When dried, similar to plums, it retains all its mineral and vitamin content. It can be made into compote, jam, or preserves, and is also suitable for use after freezing, in addition to being traditionally used for making pálinka (fruit brandy).
