The Halloween holiday is known in many countries. At night, people dress up in scary costumes, tell each other ghost stories, have fun and of course carve pumpkins!
The symbol of Halloween, for centuries, has been the carved pumpkin lantern, also known as the Jack-o'-lantern, which originally served a dual purpose: it kept away evil spirits and thus illuminated the way for the spirits of the dead so that they could find their way home.
Nowadays, it has become increasingly fashionable in Hungary to party, joke and scare our loved ones and acquaintances on the day before All Saints' Day.
Children in particular love the occasion to dress up in witchy and scary costumes, make lanterns out of carved pumpkins and collect chocolate!

How do we start carving a pumpkin?
Ingredients :
- Carving tools (knife, spoon, etc.)
- Pumpkin
- Candle
- Felt-tip pen (for drawing the stencil)
- Clean the pumpkin, cut off the top and gut it.
- Draw the desired pattern with a felt-tip pen. For example: eyes, nose, mouth, or a broom, cat, nice pattern, etc.
- Carefully carve out the drawn patterns.
- Place the candle inside the pumpkin.
- Place the lid or "cap" on top. Make sure that the candle does not burn the top and inside of the pumpkin. If it does, do not put the lid on.
And your own hand-carved pumpkin is ready!
