This elongated green onion is most often encountered during the Easter period, as it is a main staple of the festive menu. Its distinctive flavour is a perfect complement to egg dishes. You can even make a cream soup from it as a cooked dish.

Interesting facts

In the past, it was a "by-product" of red onion planting, as often the "superfluous" bulbs were picked during the thinning of densely sown onions and sold as spring onions. Spring onion is a vegetable with extremely high water content; its hollow leaves store water inside, giving it a slimy texture. In winter, its leaves and stem are thicker than in spring.

Usage

Its distinctive flavour is a perfect complement to egg dishes. You can even make a cream soup from it as a cooked dish.

The Alliance for a Living Tisza (SZÖVET) was founded on June 29, 2006, in Nagykörű, and was officially registered in March 2007. The initial membership of 38 has grown to 70 (120 including the successful applicants of the Microfund). Their members primarily come from the areas of their 7 Sub-regional Action Groups (KACS). SZÖVET has action groups operating in Bereg, Bodrogköz, around the Kesznyéten Landscape Protection Area, in Borsodi Mezőség, in and around Nagykörű, in Nagy-Sárrét (in and around Túrkeve), and in Kis-Sárrét (in and around Biharugra). The Action Groups are in daily contact with local self-governments, farmers, and civil organizations. The Alliance aims to promote farming models that achieve a sustainable coexistence between humans and the river: they are adapted to the characteristics of the landscapes, enrich the rich diversity of life, and promote the well-being of people living in the region. The goal of their association is to improve the livelihood opportunities for those living in the Tisza River basin, increase flood and environmental safety, and preserve and enhance the ecological values of the Tisza, so that the inhabitants of this region can live in good quality of life and safety.
