Description
Pepper originates from Central and South America and probably arrived in Europe around the 15th century. Initially, it was grown as an ornamental plant, as it was believed to be poisonous. In our country, it was first found only in aristocratic gardens. Its production did not exceed the level of family self-sufficiency anywhere in our country until the mid-19th century. It is one of the most important spices in Hungarian cuisine.
Interesting fact
Pepper contains provitamins of vitamin A, alpha- and beta-carotene, as well as cryptoxanthin and vitamin P. It contains several bioflavonoids, which help prevent cancer. It is a significant source of vitamin C.
Use
It is most often consumed raw, as a salad, thinly sliced in a sandwich, it is excellent. It is increasingly becoming fashionable as a side dish, baked or steamed.
Producer information
The Organic Kingdom organic farm is located in Kölcse, in the heart of the Szatmár region, in an untouched, less discovered natural environment. The Szatmár region is often referred to as the "orchard" of Hungary, famous for its apples, plums, walnuts and sour cherries. The nature reserves in the area are ideal for organic farming.
The beginnings of the enterprise date back to 1997, when they started to produce vegetables as a family farm. The one-hectare area soon expanded, and today they produce vegetables and fruits on 50 hectares. In 2003, they built a 600-ton capacity cold store and packaging plant.
In 2004, they switched to organic farming, and since then they have not used fertilizers, synthetic pesticides or herbicides. Their environmental awareness and the protection of their natural environment are of paramount importance to them.
Since 2005, they have been exporting to the countries of the European Union and Israel, and they are also present on the domestic market. Organic Kingdom Kft. was founded in 2008 for the distribution, processing and export of organic vegetables and fruits. From the very beginning, they have offered long-term cooperation to local organic producers.
