Interesting facts

Pattypan squash originates from America. It has long been known among the Native Americans, especially in the region of California, from where it spread across Europe and Asia to the entire world. In Hungary, it only became widely known from the late 1960s.

Usage

Its subtle flavour is brought out by cooking and baking, and it can be seasoned boldly. Its spices include bay leaf, basil, pepper, garlic, cardamom, dill, marjoram, paprika, parsley, nutmeg, lemon and orange juice, and various vinegars.

It can also be prepared sweet, in which case cinnamon and cloves can also be used.

• boiled with butter
• stuffed and layered, cooked
• with sauces
• steamed
• with eggs
• in lecsó
• with rice
• as a cream
• as a puree
• as a cream soup 
• prepared as a stew
• breaded and fried
