Essential oils in cosmetics
Plants that are capable of producing essential oils are aromatic plants. The preservation of health and healing with essential oils is called aromatherapy. Aromatherapy is a holistic treatment, which means it treats the person as a whole. Aromatherapy affects the body, soul, and spirit, the entire organism. It is a good complement to other therapies.
Essential oils can be used through the skin (massage, bath water) or inhaled (inhalation, vaporization).
Only original, high-quality, pure, undiluted essential oils have vital power and therapeutic effects.
Quality is influenced by several factors. One is the condition of the plant's cultivation. Personally, I only use oils from organic cultivation at home and in SHEDO cosmetics, because these certainly do not contain pesticide residues that may have been used during cultivation, making them safe for the human body and the soil, as well as aquatic life. Quality is also influenced by the proper timing of harvesting, the method and duration of distillation, the quality of the water used for distillation, and even the quality of the distillation equipment. The color, scent, and appearance of the oil reveal a lot about its quality, and the quantity of compounds responsible for therapeutic effects can also be well measured with instrumental tests.

Essential oils are often found among the ingredients of cosmetics. They can be included in the product for two reasons:
- as a fragrance
- as an active ingredient
In both cases, manufacturers must adhere to specific regulations. Typically, essential oils are present in higher concentrations as active ingredients. If the concentration exceeds a certain level, it is mandatory to list the allergenic components of the essential oil at the end of the cosmetic ingredient list. If it is pure, undiluted, and of excellent quality, there is no need to worry about irritation.
Among the SHEDO Manó cosmetics, in addition to the essential oil variants, you will also find products that do not contain essential oils. These are labeled as "natural." I created my products without essential oils for two reasons. One is that there are people who avoid essential oils for various reasons, and the other is that I do not recommend the use of essential oils under 6 months of age, except in a diffuser, so the natural versions can be used even for your newborn baby.
