Hair Care and Cradle Cap

Hair Care and Cradle Cap

The genes of a newborn determine whether they are born without hair or with a large mane. It is very common for the hair present at birth to fall out and then grow back over time.

In the newborn period, if the baby has little hair, it is sufficient to wipe the scalp with clean water during baths to remove any dirt that may have accumulated there during the day.

Washing hair with shampoo is justified when the baby becomes more active, sweats, and gets their head and hair dirty while crawling. Generally, washing hair once a week is sufficient, but of course, it can easily happen that 1-2 additional occasions need to be included. Choose natural cosmetics specifically developed for infants and children for hair washing.

What is cradle cap?

Cradle cap is very common in infancy, but it is not uncommon for it to occur in toddlers as well. It appears on the scalp in the form of yellowish plaques. It is caused by overproduction of sebaceous glands and is not related to hygiene, but rather influenced by age and constitutional factors.

How can you get rid of it?

Since the sebum deposit is greasy in nature, it can be nicely dissolved with a mixture of vegetable oils.

1. Apply baby care oil to your child's scalp, and put a thin little cap on if they allow it (if not, the cap can be omitted).

2. Leave the oil on for a few hours. The oil will loosen the deposit.

3. You can remove it with a soft towel. After that, wash the head thoroughly and comb out the skin residues.
