The history of the Ferrero Group is a success story spanning three generations, in which the development of a multinational corporation is in perfect harmony with the past, present, and future of a steadfast Piedmontese family.

To understand the roots of this success, we must go back to the 1940s. It was during these times that Michele's parents, Piera and Pietro, transformed their confectionery shop into a factory. The Ferrero family was the first Italian confectionery manufacturer to open production plants and offices abroad in the post-World War II era, thereby transforming the company into a truly international group. These first and decisive steps were made possible by products invented by Pietro Ferrero and his then almost child son, Michele. Another key to success was the effective sales network organized by Pietro's brother, Giovanni, who passed away in 1949.

After the company's successes in Italy, Michele Ferrero decided to start production abroad as well. In 1956, a large plant was inaugurated in Germany, followed shortly by one in France. This was the precursor to Ferrero's rapid European expansion, followed by commercial offices and production centers in Belgium, the Netherlands, Austria, Switzerland, Sweden, the United Kingdom, Ireland, and Spain. In the decades that followed, Ferrero became a global player, with companies and plants in North and South America, Southeast Asia, Eastern Europe, Africa, Australia; and more recently in Turkey, Mexico, and China.
