Drumshanbo Gunpowder Sardinian Citrus gin 43%
The distillery's base gin is re-distilled in this edition with a hint of Sardinian citrus – one of the world's rarest citrus fruits, which only grows on the island of Sardinia. This addition gives this gin an exotic aroma.
Its flavour comes into its own best when mixed into a refreshing cocktail, but we also recommend it on its own, garnished with a fresh slice of grapefruit.
In a small Irish town, Drumshanbo, on the shore of a small lake, lies The Shed Distillery, and within it, the laboratory of master distiller PJ Rigney. He is the one who pushes the boundaries of crafting spirits, when he infuses their slowly distilled gin with the finest oriental botanicals.
He personally tasted and selected all 12 botanicals on his travels, at their place of origin, to create his dream drink. The most special of these is the Moroccan Gunpowder tea plant. This is a green tea, which is slowly dried, then the fine leaves are carefully made into pellets. Its flavour is bold and lively, with a slightly spicy freshness.
About the brand
In a small Irish town, Drumshanbo, on the shore of a small lake, lies The Shed Distillery, founded in December 2014, and within it, the laboratory of master distiller and owner PJ Rigney. He is the one who pushes the boundaries of crafting spirits, when he pairs ever more special plants with various grain distillates. The essence of his work is that he tries to connect things that do not seem to go together at first glance. This requires proper motivation and creativity, putting aside proven solutions and venturing into uncharted territory.
When founding the distillery, he looked for a wild, desolate place in the heart of the Irish countryside, where he could experiment in peace with wild grains, Irish wild plants and exotic plants alike. The village of Drumshanbo proved to be the perfect location, so he set up his distillery there in 2014, equipped with five traditional copper stills. Three of the stills focus on making Irish whiskey (Drumshanbo Single Pot Still (0.7l, 43%), two on producing Drumshanbo Gunpowder Irish gin. Later, two more column stills were put into operation to produce Sausage Tree Pure Irish vodka. All of them were made in Germany by Arnold Holstein.
