Jack Daniel's is an American whiskey and liqueur brand, primarily known for its Tennessee whiskey. The company was founded in 1875 by its Scottish-Irish founder, Jasper Newton "Jack" Daniel. Although Jack Daniel's Tennessee whiskeys meet all the regulations of straight bourbon whiskey, the brand's owners have avoided this designation from the beginning, and have insisted that Tennessee whiskey is a different type of whiskey from bourbon due to the maple charcoal filtering.

In some parts of Tennessee, not only distilling but even the distribution of alcoholic beverages is still prohibited, which is why the state is simply referred to by Americans as the "driest". Despite the deep religiosity of the locals, the home of perhaps the world's most famous whiskey, the Jack Daniel's distillery, is located in the city of Lynchburg.
