St. Martin's Day Goose

November 11 is St. Martin's Day, when not only those celebrating their name day are honored, but also the end of the harvest and the completion of the new wine, which has been celebrated for centuries. According to legend, Saint Martin, who was born in the area of present-day Szombathely, tried to hide in a goose pen when he was to be elected bishop of the French city of Tours in 371, as he did not desire this position. However, the geese betrayed him with their loud cackling. For many, this day also marks the last feast before the 40-day fast. Even the Romans held feasts with the new harvest and wine, and after the goose dinner, it was customary to toast with the matured new wine. At Kifli, we focus on delivering goose, duck, and the matching wine to your home. Of course, you will also find other specialties made from goose liver and desserts that can suitably conclude such a dinner.
