Carnival officially lasts from Epiphany, January 6th, until Ash Wednesday (which marks the beginning of Lent, depending on Easter), and it transformed from a pagan spring festival into a Christian celebration. In Hungary, masquerade balls following the Italian model were already fashionable during the time of King Matthias – but you can celebrate Carnival however you like, we won't hold you back.
