The famous Nagykörű cherry's story began in 1870 when László Petrovay, a landowner, and his son György Petrovay established an orchard and nursery on the inherited estate. The enthusiastic descendant collected all the berries and stone fruits available in the area, including varieties trademarked as "Nagy Kürüi." His thoroughness is well exemplified by the tree inventory made in the 1880s, which lists 65 cherry varieties, including an early Nagy Kürüi and a crispy Nagy Kürüi, indicating their origin and the source of propagation material. Naturally, cherries were grown in many more gardens, but these varieties still carry the name of their floodplain origin. The mentioned varieties were only grown here and were "registered" here by György Petrovay.
