Pietro Ferrero, an Italian pastry chef from Piedmont, created a sweet, spreadable cream from hazelnuts, sugar, and a small amount of cocoa – which was very rare at the time. He shaped the mixture into a loaf – which could later be sliced and placed on bread. He named the delicacy 'Giandujot', after a famous carnival character of the era. The Ferrero company was officially founded on May 14, 1946.
