Brewing has a long tradition in Sopron. In March 1895, the owners of the Brno brewery and the city's wholesalers saw the moment had come and founded the Sopron factory under the name of Első Soproni Serfőzde és Malátagyár (First Sopron Brewery and Malt Factory).

In the city that has been engaged in viticulture for centuries, the city councilors regulated the sale of beer as early as 1523. According to the then regulation, the Franciscan friars rang the bell at 8 pm to inform the citizens that there would be no more beer sales after the beer bell had rung.
