Pitted olives

The olive was first cultivated in Greece, probably on the island of Crete, around 3500 BC. It reached North Africa and Asia Minor through Phoenician traders. It was also found in royal tombs in Egypt. Missionaries took it to the New World.

It first became known in California, where there are olive trees that are about 200 years old, while in Europe it is not uncommon for them to be 300-500 years old. Moreover, in Israel, on the Mount of Olives, it is believed that the olive trees there were already there in Jesus' time, so they are more than 2000 years old. In light of all this, we can see that olive trees are very long-lived.

Health

Thanks to the simple fatty acids it contains, the olive slows down ageing, cures rheumatism, diabetes, and also improves resistance.

Thanks to its vitamin A, D, E and beta-carotene content, it is an important source of antioxidants. It also contains calming substances, which can have a good effect on our bodies in the event of stress. It is good for the liver, the digestive system and the muscles, and it makes the heart's work easier.

Use

The olive is an essential ingredient in Mediterranean cuisine. We can use it raw and cooked in our dishes in ragouts, side dishes, salads, but it is also excellent for salad dressings. The olive is indispensable in Greek salad, but it is also delicious just nibbled on its own.
