Product Description

The catfish is a native freshwater fish of Europe, a widespread and popular fish species. Its white, finely fibrous meat is boneless and versatile.

Preparation suggestion: A popular dish in Hungarian cuisine is catfish paprikash with cottage cheese pasta; additionally, catfish can be prepared as fish soup, grilled, fried, as fish aspic, fish salad, or as an ingredient for other cold kitchen dishes.

Catfish fillet recipe:

  1. Wash the catfish fillets, pat them dry with a paper towel. Salt them, cut into finger-thick strips, then cover and let them rest in the refrigerator for 10-20 minutes.  
  2. In a bowl, whisk the egg whites until foamy, add a little milk and mix well. In another shallow bowl, combine cornflour, salt, garlic powder, cayenne, and coarsely ground pepper. Dip the fillet into the milk mixture, then roll it in the cornflour mixture.
  3. Fry in plenty of oil at 160-180°C for 3-4 minutes on both sides until golden brown. Garnish with lemon or lime, if desired.

  1. Combine 2 parts mayonnaise with 1 part sour cream, finely chopped pickled gherkins, and crushed capers. Season with lemon juice, fresh chopped dill, Worcestershire sauce, and mustard.
