Zelna-Rozé 2023

An explosively fruity rosé made from a blend of Kékfrankos and Merlot. It was made using white wine technology without skin maceration, meaning that it was pressed immediately after crushing and destemming, then inoculated and fermented and aged in steel tanks. The Kékfrankos provides the spice and intense fruitiness, while the Merlot adds body and fullness. It was gently filtered at the end of January and bottled so that it would be in top form for the first days of spring.

Producer information

In Balatonfüred, they make wines from the Berekszél and Farkó-kő vineyards, and in Balatonszőlős from the Penke vineyard. The Zelna winery has been farming organically from the beginning, and their areas have been continuously switching to certified organic cultivation since 2018.

What does it mean to be organic? For example, instead of absorbable pesticides, they spray with copper, sulfur, and orange oil, and they focus on prevention and conditioning. In addition to natural remedies, this also means that they pay increased attention to soil cultivation, proper nutrient supply, and preserving biodiversity.
