PDO stands for Protected Designation of Origin. Feta has had this designation in the European Union since 2002. EU and national laws restrict the use of the name “feta” in 25 countries to cheeses produced in mainland Greece and the prefecture of Lesbos, made from sheep’s milk or a mixture of sheep’s and goat’s milk from the region.

Usage

Feta is an excellent appetizer with olives, but it also goes perfectly with pasta and traditional Greek salads. It is also popular in baked goods, especially in Greek filo pastry delicacies such as spinach or cheese pies.
