Zelna-Bárka Red 2021

Merlot, cabernet sauvignon and cabernet franc, harvested in stages, fermented in a tank with wild yeast. 70% of the blend was aged in 225, 300 and 500 liter barrels, 30% in a tank - so it remained lively, drinkable, fruity. Despite the higher alcohol, it is not robust, tannic or over-extracted. A vital wine, with currants, blueberries, elegant, oaky notes from a vintage where the vine itself was limited due to the earlier ice damage.

Producer information

In Balatonfüred, they make wines from the Berekszél and Farkó-kő vineyards, and in Balatonszőlős from the Penke vineyard. The Zelna winery has been farming organically from the beginning, and their areas have been continuously switching to certified organic cultivation since 2018.

What does it mean to be organic? For example, instead of absorbable pesticides, they spray with copper, sulfur, orange oil, and emphasize prevention and conditioning. In addition to natural remedies, this also means that they pay increased attention to soil cultivation, proper nutrient supply and the preservation of biodiversity.
