The Association for the Living Tisza (SZÖVET) was founded on June 29, 2006 in Nagykörű, and its court registration took place in March 2007. The membership of 38 at the time of foundation has now increased to 70 (120 together with the winners of the Mikroalap tender). Their members come primarily from the area of their 7 Local Action Groups (KACS). SZÖVET has action groups operating in Bereg, Bodrogköz, around the Kesznyéten Landscape Protection Area, in Borsodi Mezőség, in and around Nagykörű, in Nagy-Sárrét (in and around Túrkeve) and in Kis-Sárrét (in and around Biharugra). The Action Groups are in daily contact with local governments, farmers, and civil organizations. The Association aims to spread farming practices that implement the sustainable coexistence of humans and rivers: they correspond to the characteristics of the landscapes, increase the rich diversity of life, and promote the well-being of the people living in the landscape. The aim of their association is to improve the livelihood of those living in the Tisza River basin, to increase flood and environmental safety, to preserve and increase the ecological values of the Tisza, so that the inhabitants of this region can live in good quality of life and safety.
