Sonnentor has been an expert in herbs and spices for over 30 years. Since 1988, the brand has been inspiring people with organic teas, herbs and spices. The story of Sonnentor began with Johannes Gutmann, who loved the Waldviertel region where he was born. In the 1980s, it was common for people to move from the countryside to the city – but not Johannes, who wanted to live and work in Waldviertel. 

Johannes was already a passionate organic pioneer at a time when many people did not even know what organic farming meant. In the 1980s, consumers paid little attention to food – where it came from, what was in it and how it was grown. Johannes sensed that organic farming was the best way for health, the environment and the future. This is where the inspiring idea came from: to distribute regional organic products with the traditional 24-spoke sun symbol of Waldfiertel. The rest is history. Today, more than 200 farmers work in the Sonnentor family, and in the meantime Sonnentor has become one of the most successful Austrian companies.

Sonnentor considers Waldviertel its home, but its wider homeland is the whole world. Waldviertel is limited in what it can produce, so partners and friends from all over the world help out. They know each other and value mutual trust and fair trade. They believe that economic success should be shared. Live and let live, mutual respect and appreciation, fruitful cooperation: this is their philosophy.
