About The Body Shop

Our story began in 1976 in Brighton, England. It all started with our founder, who believed in something revolutionary – that business could be a force for good. Following her vision, we’ve been campaigning for change for over 40 years, and have been pioneers in ethical beauty and skincare. Back then, our shop was a tiny, green-painted unit on a side street in Brighton. It was completely different to anything else on the high street, inside and out. Yet it was simple – naturally-based products with ethical sourcing at their heart, from all four corners of the globe. Our products and beauty rituals were for everyone, regardless of age, gender or background, so that everyone could feel good in their own skin. All without ever promising to change who they are. When The Body Shop started, beauty was a fairly narrow idea of how women should look. But we had our own idea of beauty. We believed beauty was about feeling good, comfortable and confident in your own skin. It was about loving who you are and what makes you unique. Our beauty products were more about everyday rituals of self-love, rather than promising to make you slimmer or wrinkle-free. We never wanted to create something that made women look a certain way, but rather to help them feel the best version of themselves.
