The Gala apple was developed in New Zealand in the mid-20th century. Nowadays, it can be found in both hemispheres, so it can be grown all year round. It has a mild, fruity and floral flavour, a crispy, fine-grained texture, and is a versatile variety suitable for both fresh and cooked preparations.

Uses

Gala apples are often sliced into salads, chopped into fruit salads, cut into fruit bowls, or diced for salsas and chutneys. They can be combined with more strongly flavoured apples, and can be used in cakes, pies, galettes, crumbles, tarts and strudels. They pair well with cheeses such as cheddar, brie and Swiss, nuts such as almonds, pecans and walnuts, meats such as chicken, turkey and pork, pears, caramelised onions and pumpkin.

László Kávássy is one of the most dedicated farmers in Eastern Hungary, and his organic plantations are among the most beautiful. Kávássy is a third-generation apple and walnut grower from the Szatmár region, which has been famous for centuries. He oversees his organic farm in Jánkmajtis (90%) and Darnó (10%). He grows a wide range of apples and walnuts, with which he tries to satisfy the full range of customer needs. He grows the following apple varieties: Gala, Golden, Red chief, Jonathan, Idared. His walnut production is based on the Milotai 10 variety.

László Kávássy produces fruit in accordance with the highest organic production standards and takes part in every work process, whether it is plant protection, gardening or office work. The products he produces are 100% free of pesticide residues. He raises the quality of the fruit to the highest level by caring for the soil, using organic fertilisers (not artificial fertilisers), applying spraying preparations and using medicinal plants. The intensive apple plantation in Jánkmajtis is also technically at the forefront of apple growing. László Kávássy's plantation, equipped with hail nets, micro-sprinkler and overhead irrigation, modern machinery and the knowledge accumulated over several generations, all guarantee excellent quality.
