Description
Idared is one of the most popular and widespread winter-hardy apple varieties in Hungary. It originates from America (created by crossing the Jonathan and Wagener varieties in 1942).
Fruit characteristics
Shape and size: Medium to large, rounded, slightly flattened fruit.
Skin: Smooth, with a waxy surface. Its base colour is yellowish-green, almost entirely covered by a vibrant red, washed overcolour.
Flesh: White or pale yellow, juicy, firm, and crisp.
Flavour: Pleasantly sweet-tart, harmonious. Not overly aromatic, but distinctly refreshing in flavour.
Storability: Keeps exceptionally well. In a standard cellar or cool pantry, it retains its texture and flavour without wrinkling until spring, and in controlled atmosphere cold storage, even until May or June.

Kávássy László is one of the most dedicated farmers in Eastern Hungary, and his organic orchards are among the most beautiful. Kávássy is a third-generation apple and walnut grower from the Szatmár region, renowned for centuries. He manages 90% of his organic farm in Jánkmajtis and 10% in Darnó. He grows a wide range of apples and walnuts, striving to fully satisfy customer needs. He cultivates the following apple varieties: Gala, Golden, Red Chief, Jonathan, Idared. His walnut cultivation is based on the Milotai 10 variety.
Kávássy László produces fruit according to the highest organic farming standards and is involved in every step of the process, whether it involves plant protection, orchard care, or administrative work. The products he produces are 100% free of pesticide residues. He elevates the quality of the fruit to the highest level through soil management, organic fertilisation (rather than chemical fertilisers), the use of spray preparations, and medicinal herbs. The intensive apple orchard in Jánkmajtis is also technically at the forefront of apple cultivation. Kávássy László's orchard, equipped with hail protection netting, micro-sprinklers, and overhead irrigation, along with modern machinery and the knowledge accumulated over several generations, all guarantee excellent quality.
