It is common in the Mediterranean region, Asia Minor, and the Mediterranean-climate islands of the Atlantic Ocean. It also has positive physiological properties: it stimulates appetite, aids digestion, and is a diuretic. It is also often planted as an ornamental plant. Its lush foliage consists of rounded leaves that are matte on the underside, shiny on the top, and slightly elongated. In spring, small, yellowish star-shaped flowers bloom, which turn into green, spherical fruits by autumn, later blackening.

Care
It is a heat and light-loving plant, sensitive to severe frost. It thrives in sunny, bright, or semi-shady locations. It prefers nutrient-rich, well-draining, neutral or slightly acidic soils.
