The sage has silvery, velvety, lance-shaped or ovate leaves arranged oppositely in pairs, and if rubbed, they emit a pleasant spicy scent due to the essential oils they contain. Its flowers, resembling an open mouth, are arranged in false spikes on the upper part of the stem, blooming in June and are mostly violet-blue.
