Country of origin
Description
The chrysanthemum's flowering definitely signals the approach of winter, as it is practically the last flower of autumn, and it needs 13-14 hours of darkness daily for its blooming. It doesn't like excessive heat either; temperatures above 30 degrees Celsius can already damage it.
Thanks to breeders, its radial, regular-shaped flowers now bloom in many colours and forms, so there are simple and full varieties, as well as daisy, anemone, spider, or pompon-flowered types, although less ornamental varieties usually have better frost resistance.
Interesting facts
The chrysanthemum's Greek-derived name means golden flower, and it had a significant cult already in ancient times, especially in China, where it was primarily a symbol of solitude, tranquility, and beauty.
Care
It requires a sunny to semi-shady location, as well as nutrient-rich, well-draining soil. It's good if its soil is always slightly moist. When watering, make sure that the plant's leaves do not get wet, as they can easily get sick.
Storage
Store at 10°C.
