Onions have been an integral part of Hungarian gastronomy for centuries, serving as an important ingredient in many traditional Hungarian dishes. They are the most popular flavouring for our cooked and fried dishes. Moreover, they are very healthy. A medium-sized onion contains 44 calories and provides 20 percent of our daily vitamin C requirement. It also contains vitamin B6, folic acid, potassium, and manganese. Furthermore, it is rich in antioxidants. Antioxidants are concentrated in the outer layers of the onion.

It is one of our oldest cultivated plants; this spice, originating from Asia, is grown and consumed almost all over the world. It is very low in energy. Red onions have been used for medicinal purposes, both externally and internally, for centuries.
Usage
Primarily, it can be used to flavour soups, stews, and meat dishes, but it can also be prepared as a standalone dish and added in various ways to salads, cold kitchen dishes, and pickles. French-style, piquant dishes include onion soup or fried onion – these have no strong smell at all, so they can be consumed freely.
Storage
Store in a dry, cool place between 5-10°C; it retains its freshness for several months.
