The banana plant is a tropical plant, which is grown for its fruit, but in our climate we only keep it for its special, even two-meter-long leaves. Unfortunately, it rarely bears flowers and fruits in our country.

The purchased plant must be replanted in all cases in order to survive in the apartment in the long term. We recommend replanting them in a larger pot or box so that they feel good in the heated apartment and do not wither. It is important not to forget to spray (with water)!

In the case of large bananas, gardeners often mix aged manure into the soil, thus providing the plant with the appropriate nutrients.

Use

If we want to grow bananas at home, it is good to know that bananas will not grow well in a heated apartment in winter, but they will remain beautiful all year round in a bright, 15-18 degree winter garden or glazed veranda. It is worth replanting young and small banana trees in an increasingly larger pot from year to year, and if replanting is no longer possible, the surface soil should be changed regularly.

In summer, if we want to put the plant outdoors, choose a shady, wind-protected area for it, because the strong sunshine will burn the leaves. In summer, water the soil regularly, even weekly, but in winter reduce the amount of watering, and only water it in the room if the soil is already slightly dry. Regularly moisten the leaves with a flower sprayer, and in winter, if possible, humidify the air around it.

Bananas are very easy to propagate by separating the small suckers and planting them in a small pot.

Storage

Store at 15-20 °C, in a non-dry room.
