Le Rustique camembert is a soft cheese with a white bloomy rind, made from full-fat cow's milk. It perfectly combines the traditional creamy texture and the characteristic rustic taste.

Camembert de Normandie is made from raw cow's milk, it is a soft cheese with a slightly salty, soft paste and a light-coloured rind. Since 1982, it has been protected in France by a controlled designation of origin (AOC), and in all countries of the European Union by a protected designation of origin (PDO), which distinguishes it from imitations that do not meet its specifications. The name comes from the village of Camembert, in the Lower Normandy region, where the cheese was originally made.

The Le Rustique Story: A Legacy of Authentic Cheesemaking

The story began in 1975, driven by the passion of a man, Jean Verrier. It was in this year that he developed the recipe that would make Le Rustique famous far beyond the borders of Normandy: the Camembert Le Rustique. Over the years, our cheesemakers have continued to strive with the same dedication to create cheeses with a unique and inimitable taste.

Jean Verrier, a Passion for Cheesemaking

Driven by a passion for cheesemaking and authentic flavours, Jean Verrier began working in the dairy of his native village, Condé-sur-Sarthe. This village is located in the heart of the green meadows of Normandy, the birthplace of Camembert. This is where the Le Rustique legend began. A few years later, Jean Verrier perfected the recipe that would make his reputation beyond the borders of Normandy after 1975: the Le Rustique Camembert. Other cheeses followed, all made with the same passion and expertise.

Le Rustique, a Simple and Authentic Flavour

Over the years, Le Rustique has become a staple in French households. The French recognise their favourite cheese at a glance, thanks to the heat-stamped pattern on the wooden box and the red and white gingham fabric! It is said that a salesman who had a surplus stock of red and white gingham fabric suggested to Jean Verrier that he use it to present his famous Camembert in a simple, authentic style.

Almost 50 Years of Love Shared

Jean Verrier's cheesemaking expertise has been passed down through the decades, and their products are now available not only in France but also far beyond. With its silky smooth, creamy texture, Le Rustique has been sharing the love of Camembert for 40 years.
