The Sauska Merlot Csukma in Wooden Box is a premium red wine, representing one of the outstanding items from the Villány wine region. The winery refers to the 2019 vintage as the "rollercoaster vintage" due to extreme weather fluctuations, which lent a special character to the wine.

Producer Information

Starting a new large winery in Villány in the early 2000s? A crazy idea. Especially if a significant part of the founding team wasn't even from there. Winemakers Ildikó Markó and László Latorczai arrived from Budapest and Lake Balaton, and the owner, Krisztián Sauska – despite his childhood in Somberek and Villány roots – was still considered an "American" in local folklore. Yet, it was precisely this lack of a past that provided the freedom from which the unusual Sauska name, with its many cuvées, could strengthen. Following the new vintage of the Cuvée 7s and the international success of Cuvée 5, the Sauska winery also became known in Tokaj. 

They were among the first to develop their quickly popular dry white wine selection, which, in addition to indigenous Furmint, Sárgamuskotály (Yellow Muscat), and Hárslevelű (Linden Leaf), also includes wines that have become crowd favourites, such as Sauvignon Blanc and Chardonnay. The raw material for their méthode traditionelle sparkling wines, soon to be produced in their Budafok cellar, comes exclusively from their own Tokaj grapes; their quality-centric philosophy is based on terroir and loyalty to it.

Storage

Store at 10-15 degrees Celsius in a dark, enclosed space. Consume within 1-2 days after opening.
